    From small beginnings in 1964, Wastewise has transformed itself from a local landfill operator into a leading resource management service provider. Enjoying rapid growth over recent years, we hold multiple long-term contracts with both public and private sector organisations and operate three state of the art waste treatment facilities across the North of England.

    1964

    Edward Landau formed Dispit Limited with the idea to use a section of the former Hull to Barnsley railway line for waste disposal purposes.

    1969

    After several years spent acquiring the land and obtaining the necessary consents, the site began to accept waste and Dispit quickly established itself as the leading landfill operator in the area.

    1980

    Paul Landau took over from his father as Managing Director and guided the Company through a sustained period of successful trading over the next 20 years.

    2001

    As the landfill sites neared completion, Biowise Limited was formed and an Open Windrow Composting (OWC) facility was opened at the Willerby site to assist with the restoration of the closed landfills.

    2008

    James Landau joined the Company to help transform and grow the business into new areas of recycling and recovery.

    2009

    Wastewise rebrand and launch of Total Waste Management division. Achieved BSI PAS 100 and Compost Quality Protocol certification.

    2014

    Awarded a 10-year contract to process over 60,000 tonnes per annum of mixed garden and food waste from Hull City and East Riding of Yorkshire Councils.

    2015

    Completed the development of a £4.5m state of the art GICOM In Vessel Composting (IVC) facility at the Willerby site.

    2017

    Awarded a 15-year, £30 million contract with Cheshire East Council to develop a second IVC facility in Crewe.
    Named Yorkshire's second fastest growing small business.

    2020

    Opened the Crewe IVC and Esholt OWC facilities, adding a further 150,000 tpa of processing capacity.
