Biowise achieves BSI PAS 100:2005 and CQP certification

10th Sep 2009

AFOR_PAS_100_Logo.jpgEast Yorkshire based waste management and recycling firm Biowise Limited has achieved BSI PAS 100:2005 and Compost Quality Protocol certification, demonstrating that the compost produced from recycled plant material at its Willerby facility meets the highest industry standard available.

The BSI specification is the British Standards Institution's Publicly Available Specification for composted material and, along with the Quality Protocol, has been developed by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), the Environment Agency and the Association for Organics Recycling, the leading compost authority.

Achieving PAS 100 certification along with the Quality Protocol confirms Biowise as a leading compost producer in the region. Certification has been achieved for both 10mm and 20mm product grades and ensures that customers can be confident that the compost they are using is of the highest standard available for all products in the range, from agricultural and landscaping products to the consumer ranges which will be launched later this year. The compost offers many benefits including slow release nutrient provision, improved soil structure, suppressed weed growth and better root penetration to assist plant growth.

The compost is derived from household green waste collected by local authorities. The BSI PAS 100 certification and Quality Protocol covers the entire compost production process from raw materials and production methods through to quality control and lab testing. It is rigorously assessed by an independent third party and involves regular inspections to ensure continued good practice. It provides an effective guarantee that the compost is a high performance product which is safe and reliable.

James Landau, Managing Director, commented “Achieving this certification for all our compost products is a major milestone for Biowise. It has taken many months to achieve and is testimony to the hard work of the team at our composting site”.
